Gourmet Herbs

I received my Ag on the 10th of November and planted the gourmet herbs on the 11th.  As promised the new growth started to come through within a few days...especially with both basils, particularly the purple basil.

The servery is an ideal place to have the AG but the downfalls have been that because I'm just under 5"4...this early stage is hard for me to see what's happening.  I've had to get a chair to stand on...lol.  Plus with the lamp being so low and me wanting to be nosey and really get in and see what's going on in those domes...my head is too big to really get a good look.  I figured out I could just stick my camera in and take a pic and then look at the pic....saves my head getting stuck.  Could be embarrassing having your head stuck in an AG and having to ring an ambulance.  If there's a first time for everything...you can guarantee I'd be the guinea pig...lol.   Thank goodness for sprouting though, because the issue of getting chairs and worrying about heads getting stuck is soon to be over. I have taken about three of the domes of now, so that's another new stage of excitement.

I have a question and I'm not sure if it is best noticed and answered here or whether I'm best to place it in the forum.  Prob the forum would be better?  I'll ask it anyway....I've noticed (in fact it started pretty much straight away) one of the labels is coming away from the pod.  The book says not to remove any labels.  This has happened on it's own without any help from me whatsoever....is this going to be a problem do you think?  Is there any way of keeping it down?

I'm adding pics below of the various stages.  I'm also throwing in a pic in of one of my beautiful mini dahlias in my garden.  I'm really happy with these little beauties and even happier with the pro looking shot I took as an amateur photographer....lol.  Let me know what you guys think.

Hi guys it's the 21st Jan '10...sorry for the huge gap.  I've been meaning to get on here for so long but just haven't got around to it.  I've had great success with both the basils, have made quite a few pestos....yum yum.  The mint and the thyme have done fine, but unfortunately what has been painful to watch has been the parsley the chives and as far as the dill where all I see are just a few seeds in the pod.  When I finally got around to emailing Aerogarden, in time I got a reply back with what looked like a generic response and basic tips of what I could do.  I thought there was a guarantee if you got no growth?  This is what they said in one paragraph:

'Unfortunately we cannot ship internationally so we cannot offer to replace those pods that failed completely.  Please let us know if you continue to have problems.'  If they are not going to replace the pods that have failed...what's the point in contacting them again?  I realise there are going to be the odd ones that might not be successful but at such a high price of $40Au...when i just recently bought herbs from a market for $1 each....you would like to see that they honour their guarantee...though I didn't realise it didn't apply to overseas customers?  Why is this?

Anyhow, they have a given a couple of suggestions and I'm not quite sure what a 'baggie' is...something about putting the seeds in a damp paper towel in a baggie for a few days then popping back in the pod?  I'll see if I can get some pics up to show how things are looking.  It's a bit hard to get the height of the lamp right when the mint and the thyme don't seem to grow high but instead bushy.  Whereas the basil grows high and though I keep pruning it when I can, sometimes I'm not ready to use the basil and when I have cut it within a few hours it's starting to look withery already (probably because of our humidity and heat at the moment).  Has anyone else had problems with the dill?  Maybe that's a question for the forums?  I'll try here first though.  Don't get me wrong, I am still really happy with the aerogarden, but yeah to only have 4 out of 7 growing successfully is a bit of a let down.  I will not give up though.....lol.  The lights are flashing, so it's time to feed the plants and top of the water.  I'll get some pics up as soon as I can.

P.S. Your dahlia is lovely!

P.S. Your dahlia is lovely!

I need to get around to changing that updated-post-is-recent-post thing. Requires modifying Drupal system code, though... maybe. Which isn't hard, but it gets blown away by release updates unless I do something clever.
