Ok, so I am a cook interested in herbs.  I am tired of throwing out fridge kept scraps that I am constantly paying lots for.  I think the aerogarden is for me because it seems simple, like me, when it comes to growing things. I have always had a passing interest in trying my hand at growing, but the aerogarden seems to have made up my mind.  I guess I will go with the pro 200 cause it seems cool and amazon has a decent price.  Is this a wise choice?? I learn quick, and don't mind maintainence, but I have read that some people have trouble with this model smoking up and I have hoped they worked out the bugs by now.  It will be kept on a counter near the fridge, should have enough ventilation.  Thats all for now, thanks for the help.

Welcome! I was one that had a pro 200 fireworks show an hour after I plugged it in and returned it to Amazon. They paid for shipping it back and had a UPS driver at my door the next day. I would buy another one today, knowing the support both AG and Amazon have. I was disappointed that the pro200 didn't have a stainless steel top like the pro100, reflecting light back up to your plants but a piece of aluminum foil takes care of that handily.

Whatever you decide, I'm sure you'll enjoy it and you can find lots of info about them here.

Welcome, Ricklynchcore! I think you'd be very happy with a pro200. It should come with a gourmet herb kit and a master gardener kit - perfect for your purposes. If there are any herbs in the gourmet kit that you don't need, it's easy to use your own seeds to re-seed one or more of the pods (like if you'd prefer another basil or dill over a mint).

P.S. If you're pretty sure you don't want to grow big things like tomatoes and peppers, you might also consider getting two Aerogarden 3's. Two of them would come to $160, and they do a fine job with herbs and lettuce and flowers. I have a pair of them (sorta). The nice thing about having a pair is that you can start a new garden in one while the other is still growing, and there's enough light between the pair where you can grow herbs that don't do well in water, like putting a rosemary pot between them.

Two AG3's would be louder than a pro200, though. (Motor hum & bubbling noise - the pro200 has a water pump that's almost silent.)

But if you're thinking you might want to grow fruiting plants (tomato, pepper, etc) sometime, stick to the Pro200, Deluxe, or AG6 Elite +. They're taller.

Thank you both for your useful comments, I will have to think a bit. I imagine, if this works well, maybe I'll buy the aero 3, and pro 200, cause I may end up wanting tomato's, etc..., but thanks everyone for the ideas, I appreciate your help. Rick

Hello and welcome ricklynchcore.

The AeroGarden is a great little device for growing your herbs, lettuce, tomatoes and many other (non subterranean) plants you can think of. It will grow them bigger, faster and better than anything you would plant in the ground. The Pro200, like everyone else has said, is one of the better models out there, it will stand you in good stead for any larger plants you might consider cultivating.

Any advice we can give, just ask.

Thanks for the advice Peat, I read somewhere that you have a niffty guide to all things Aerogarden.  If this is so, is there a way for me to get a copy?  Thanks in advance, look forward to participating.  Will be ordering the aerogarden today, hopefully.

Thanks Rick

Rick, have you explored Aerogrow's site? You might appreciate the model comparison chart and custom herb seed kit pages.

On this site, Aerogarden Lore is the compendium of Peat's guides and other misc Aerogarden knowledge reference stuff. Evolving.

Thanks for the link gisette.

Rick, the guides are freely available for you to download and read.  I hope they give you some more insight into the art of hydroponics, it sounds a complicated subject but it's really easy once you know how.
