Thai Basil

Once at a party last year, I had these chicken pot stickers with this amazing Thai Basil Pesto (had a hint of  Green Thai Chile paste in it too) and I could not get enough of that pesto so when I saw these seeds I had to grab them! It was the last pack!

Does it really taste like licorice?

I had a bum cilantro pod, and called AG customer support, and they offered me a replacement. Guess I was slow to answer which I wanted, because at each pause he decided I didn't really want anything he'd just offered, and he eventually trotted out almost every herb they sell. "Thai basil" sounded really wild, so I asked for that. But then I looked it up and they said it tasted like licorice... I don't like licorice. Still have the pod...

I didnt know AG had thai basil! Probably dont now right? like the snap peas, roses & strawberries that disappeared from their offerings.

I hate licorice & it didnt taste like licorice to me (but then it could be overpowered by the Green Chile Paste in the Pesto). I only planted a little bit of it to and if I dont like it no harm no foul. You have a huge garden, certainly cant hurt to try but I wouldnt waste AG space on it. Pull the seeds out, pop it in some MG in a small cup like me and save the pod for something else

I don't have a huge garden... I do grow basil in balcony railing planters, tho. Hm.

Thai basil is part of the international basil seed kit for 7-podders.

Oh, I thought you did with all that you are planting already. I'm not a 7 podder so I didnt know. I wonder what else they are hiding from me and the AG3ers!!!

Nope not yet. I figured I wait till they get just a bit bigger. I didnt realize basil took a lil time to grow. It seems like my AG basil grew faster.

Jessi,

Are you sure the Pesto you tasted were made with Thai Basil or is it a regular sweet Basil pesto with an Thai flavour twist from the thai chillis?

I asked the chef & he told me it was Thai Basil Pesto with green chili paste but who really knows now!

I definitely now do think it was regular basil because there is little to no way I would have mistaken the flavor and as much as I HATE licorice theres no way  I would have kept eating that pesto all night long!  Just that tiny sprout I tasted stayed with me most of the day!

Thank you for telling me, Jessi! Will definitely recycle that thai basil pod. Yuck licorice! Glad I didn't plant it. It's annoying to have pods fail, so hard to get them replanted and caught up.

Its so true! I was about to replant it because its getting a bit big for the tiny plastic pot I have it in now. Then I thought lets just taste it before I commit my potting soil to it & I'm glad I did!
