Seed Starting 2016

Just rigged my new seed starting setup for the year today. smiley First pansy seeds have germinated.

The new rig features a new T8 shoplight, much like the last one. But the chains were too short/badly positioned to hang directly from the shelf anymore. Hence the classy new plank of wood.

My old T8 shoplight was kind of sparking at one end, so I retired it last year. I have this bad-karma thing going with buying electronics at Walmart. If it needs a plug, it goes bad. Your mileage may vary...

So far I've only planted pansies and early indoor/outdoor peppers. The peppers are upstairs until they germinate, because it's warmer up there. Attachments discussed in a forum topic.

"Seed starting" isn't fitting

"Seed starting" isn't fitting too well for this anymore, but I'll run with it for now. smiley

Peppers now aged 9 weeks and blooming.

5 week cabbages and some 2 week lettuce now out in growbox - yay! About a dozen pansies, too, and planted spinach outside this week in another growbox. And sprouting peas and planted those outside. Love that trick.

Planted impatiens this weekend.

Having gorgeous spring planting weather very early this year.

Peppers graduated to bigger

Peppers graduated to bigger pots and their own CFL lights today, aged 6 weeks, with protobuds. (Left yummy, right carmen.)

Pansies also 6 weeks from seed. Onions and 4 cabbages 2 weeks from seed.

Spring planting coming along.

Spring planting coming along. Peppers and 38 pansies now 4 weeks old - just transferred the pansies to 6-packs today.

It's late, and early, but also planted onions and 4 cabbages today. Shooting for 2 onions per cell on the onions (white walla walla and yellow granex). And 2 Early Jersey Wakefield (stonehead) and 2 Kaboko Chinese cabbage, extra early.

The carmen and yummy peppers will likely move to a roomier spot (and maybe pots) before I post again.
