Hi All,
I'm not familiar with what you are using to create pictures in posts. I bypassed the lightbox thread thinking that is was some sort of new hobby. But, I don't understand the basics after reading the thread. Do I need to download software? Do the pictures get uploaded somewhere or are they pulled from my computer? Just point me in the direction of the how-to website? Link?
Thanks,
Beth
A brief photobucket tutorial...
If you use photobucket - here is the tutorial for uploading pictures from your pc to the free software.
Once you have the pictures in your photobucket album, copy the whole 'Direct Link' code e.g. http://i416.photobucket.com/albums/pp242/Peat_02/Parts.jpg and paste into the 'Insert/Edit Image' link (URL box) when you post a new comment in this forum.
If you look at the height & width box, you will see a circle and arrow (Reset Size) icon, click this and resize you image to, say, 540 in height for a decent size picture. You can resize to 128 for those mini type pictures which you will see here. Gisette has a good tutorial for using the lightbox, a neat bit of program that can scroll through bite size images.
This is only a basic guide to help you, if you decide to use photobucket and are still a little confused, just ask and I'll help.
If you use picassa then I'll pass this over to someone else, if you use something different then you just need that image code to paste in.

Hm. Do you ever put pictures up on the web to share with friends and family? Some people only email them around, or upload them to a particular site when discussing them. And you can do that here - as you've done - but it's not ideal. It's better to upload pictures to a photo-sharing site, and then refer to the pictures in emails and other forums & books here, etc.
The photo-sharing service Bruce and I use, and I recommend, is Google Picasa. The Lightboxer (but not lightboxes!) is specific to copy-pasting pictures from Picasa, into posts here. (A lightbox is just that popup box with the picture closeup in it. Usually spawned by a thumbnail-sized image.) I put particular pictures here in posts (books, forums), but I'm just referring to them here. The actual pictures are on my Picasa web albums. Lightboxer copies over the thumbnail, caption, and location of the big image, and formats them correctly here as a lightbox.
Peat uses PhotoBucket instead. I've barely used it, but many like it.
They're both free for a stunning amount of photo storage. (10 Gb on Picasa, I think.) It's just a much easier way to share and organize pictures.
Did that help, or am I still answering the wrong question?
