Pimento Sweet Peppers (2/28/2016)

Tags:

These are the only sweet peppers I have growing now. They are a sweet pepper used for stuffing olives. There is another variety that is more common called the Pimiento pepper, or Round of Hungary that looks like a small pumpkin. I love stuffing these with hot sausage, cream cheese and garlic.

This was a couple weeks ago,

This was a couple weeks ago, before I starting harvesting them. Stunningly delicious sweet peppers. Much better than bells.

I don't knmowabout the Carmen

I don't know about the Carmen, I've never grown them.  But I grew the Costa Ricans in 2014. Those are tasty sweet peppers. But the Pimento Peppers are much better, in my opinion.

Make no mistake, the Costa Ricans were very good. BUT, because they are larger pepers, you don't get a lot of peppers. I don't use a significant amount of sweet pepper (except in salads). Most of the time, a Jalapeno sized sweet pepper is perfect for my needs. These Pimento peppers are two servings, per pepper.

Thanks, Mike. I think you'd

Thanks, Mike. I think you'd like Carmen. A bit smaller than Costa Ricans, some significantly smaller, and more per plant. Carmen flavor and sweetness are more intense. They're both very good. Though if you like jalapeno sized, you'd probably enjoy yummy more. Lots of small peppers, on a more compact plant.

I'd like to try the Pimento sometime. Actually I tried to order it once and got something else by mistake, that I didn't like.

Oh, cool, Mike! I've been tempted to try those. Please let me know how they compare to carmen and costa rican sweet? I haven't liked bell peppers since my first carmen. smiley

Greg,

Greg,

There is zero heat in these peppers. I like them better than red bell peppers. I bought the seeds last year from Swallowtail Seeds, and they list this pepper as "extremely sweet". I may never buy bell peppers again.

Those look very scary,

Those look very scary, because it usually seems the smaller the pepper the hotter they are.
I love red bell peppers. Not so much into hot peppers.
It sounds like these Pimento sweet peppers are a smaller, but maybe more intense version of the red bell pepper?

I just tried some red bell peppers in an aeroponic system in my garage, and they got very big, and had flowers, but never fruited.
I'm guessing because their was no pollination happening.

With these Pimento sweet peppers, grown in an Aerogarden, what's needed when it comes to pollination to get them to fruit?

The size and look of it still scares me... When you bite into it, is it a burst of intense sweet red bell pepper goodness?
I won't be looking for the closest firehose, right?

Please forgive my worrisome aspect. I have a boss and coworker who love hot peppers, the hotter the better. They even love it when it causes their veins to pop out in their foreheads. And they have contests on who can eat the hottest, and talk about scovale value(?), etc...

My forehead starts sweating after eating Pickup Stix Kungpao chicken.
Sweet peppers I like.
