Petunias

The good weather provided me to plant my petunias outside, and they look amazing!

Congrats, Adrian. Did you grow the petunias from seed?

I've got a few cute little yellow trailing petunias this year. I used to grow tons, but decided to take a break last year to cut down on caterpillars.

So how quickly do the petunias bloom? I need to have a garden for a show and thought petunias would be beautiful.

I grew the English Cottage Garden kit with an AG mini (precursor to the AG3). Took nearly two months for the first petunia to bloom, but the room was cold. Maybe 7 weeks at normal room temperature? I'm not sure they put the same seeds anymore in the kit they still call English Cottage Garden, btw.

Marigolds, zinnias, and monkey flowers (mimulus) are very quick. Like, 6 weeks. (Maybe less for marigolds.) A very short variety of zinnia. Some get really big.

You can call Aerogrow and ask them which of their flower kits will bloom fastest, and about how long it'll take.

P.S. I bookmarked these tempting varieties of mimulus once, but haven't gotten around to trying them. They will bloom faster in an Aerogarden.

Thank you. I will call them. I did order the petunias but I can plant them after the show.

Hi! Does anyone know how to grow tulips and when it is better to start growing them? I want to start growing them at home and than move into my garden.

Hi, Cathryn,

I've only grown tulips the traditional way - plug them into the garden in autumn, and let them come up themselves in spring, when they're ready. Though I'm sure you can "force" them indoors, like narcissus. That's really for the purpose of having them bloom indoors, though you can plug them into the garden afterwards for next year.
