Nutrients

Hi

In the past I have been a little disappointed with the lettuce I have been growing. So many youtube videos show lettuce as being one of the best and easiest things to grow. Lettuce seems to grow well but I am not able to get that full head of lettuce like in those videos.

I've been thinking about trying a different nutrient. The Aerogarden liquid nutrient is pretty generic and I think a specific one for lettuce and herbs might do a better job.

Any thoughts on which type or brand to use? The other question I have is the other nutrients are made for large grows and not the small amount that the Aerogarden needs? Is there a good liquid nutrient that is made for small, Aerogarden size, grows?

Thanks

John

You mean to measure? I use

You mean to measure? I use measuring spoons for the dry stuff, and a 5-ml dosing syringe to measure the liquids. And mix in gallon bottles, not in the Aerogarden reservoir.

Thanks for your detailed

Thanks for your detailed reply.

All of the nutrients you mentioned come in such large amounts for such a small grow as in an Aerogarden and it is hard to mix such a small amount. What do you do to get such a small amount?

P.S. I like Nevada

P.S. I like Nevada summercrisp as a lettuce variety, or Little Caesar. The limpleafs do not fare well in my house in the dry winter air.

Hi, AGMS!

Hi, AGMS!

FWIW, my big solution with lettuce is starving it. I only use about 80% of whatever nutrient calls for, for vegetative growth, and dump and refill weekly with fresh rainwater. Lettuce prefers dilute water. Lettuce does not like my hard tap water.

I don't use the Aerogarden nutes. I like Urban Farm Fertilizers for a one-part organic, and MaxiGro for one-part inorganic. Those are good for the vegetative phase of any plant - but mix it no more than 80% strength for lettuce (40% for their first week or two.) I used to use the 3-part nutrients, but I got lazy. They sell the stuff in different sizes.
