I know, it is pretty bad when you start wishing for a drought! A nice warm rain free May would be wonderful! Our three County snow plows didn't make a first pass until 5 PM. I hope the roads are clear tomorrow - I'm going stir crazy!
Stay Warm,
Beth
Beth - I'm thinking of you each time I hear about the oncoming mid-Atlantic storm. The one calling for 1-3 feet in DC, but so far, they still think passing us by to the south...
Hi Gisette,
Yup, 2 to 3 FEET of snow in Southern Maryland. Sigh. At least we are prepared - All bread, milk, toilet paper and gas are sold out. Oh yes, and meat. Can't figure out the gas and meat. No one is going anywhere, so why the gas? And why is there a run on meat?? No one has a freezer? We stocked up on coffee and cinnamon buns ;>) I went to the local garden shop and bought sprouts to grow. Then to the library for books to read.
Beth
LOL, Beth!
Perhaps the gas is to run away before the storm.
Aside from a really deluxe Sunday supper (I can relate to that - spend all weekend cooking if snowed in, not a bad plan), I can't figure out the meat, either.
Still expecting less than an inch here.
I'm actually kinda envious, Beth.
It's been so dry here. I think my overwintering pansies bit the dust. Poor things look over-frozen and dessicated.
Wednesday we're supposed to get a blizzard at last! Well, a small blizzard - 6-12" of snow and 29 mph winds.
Hi Gisette,
Glad you are looking forward to snow. Another round of snow for us tomorrow! Only 3-7" this time, but my gosh, that is enough! Watching the news and all the meat is again sold out of the markets. I guess people figure they need their protein. I still can't figure it out. Anyways, I give. If there is snow on the roads on Wed morning, I ain't traveling to work (I've got a 35 mile each way commute). I'll stay home and plant herb seeds.
Beth
The meat is so funny, Beth.
Fortunately, I work from home. Though we've both got colds - need to lay in a kleenex supply before the snow hits.
Hi All,
The forecast is for 6-12" of snow, sleet and freezing rain tonight and tomorrow. I went in to work today, no heat! Brrr. We work in a metal building (I call the shed) and the snow sliding off the roof ripped the gutters off the building. The next door shed vestibule collapsed. Bottom line is that they sent us home today until structural analysis can be done on the building. So I am working from home tomorrow. I've never actually done a full days worth of work from home. I'm so cubicle trained that I will feel guily if I leave the home office space tomorrow!
Beth
Eek, on the buildings. Snow is very heavy....
Eh, I don't feel guilty leaving my desk while working at home. At work, people spend an awful lot of time talking and coffee breaking. Have fun with it.
So? How was working from home?
That "cubicle trained" bit was too vivid a turn of phrase. It keeps coming back to me over and over.
Kinda like dogs trained in cartons... Yes, I was cubicle trained as a pup, but I escaped, and no one wants to adopt... Some metaphors are best not extended.
(Edit: I was joking. I hope that was clear...
)
Hey Gisette,
Very interesting experience working at home. I accomplished a little more than I would have at the office, got to sleep later and didn't have to drive 2 hours to and from work. Still a little weird. I've done work from home, but always on my off days. Cubicle trained isn't a good thing - but after 29 1/2 years it is just what I'm used to. I'm working again from home tomorrow. I could get used to this!
Beth
It's especially sweet when the roads / weather are bad, or in my case, when there are the kid / doctor / parent / post office type errands to run. When last I really commuted, I had a preschooler to ferry to my mother's for day care... and the commute ... and the kid sick... Yes, you can have it all. If you have it all at the same time, you get d****d tired.
It's also very sweet when the weather is good, of course.
Thought of you this evening when I saw part a corrugated metal part of the Smithsonian crumpled under snow on the news. We're actually below average snow this winter up here. (Knock on wood. That can change. March tends toward 100% precipitation. Temperature varies.)

You're getting more snow than we are.
Really missing that nice warm spell now. Last night below zero with wind chill again. Tonight's low headed back down to 13°F.
On the bright side, I read the Old Farmer's Almanac prediction for this spring / summer. They're calling for temps above average and drier for April & May, typical steamy deluge for June, then cooler and drier, maybe even drought for summer. After the past two growing seasons, wouldn't that be nice!
