Mini Jalapeno 2010

Beth11's picture

Mini Jalapeno plants (2) have sprouted 20 October.  Not even big enough for a picture!

22 Oct: Ack! All three jalapenos have sprouted plus the mini red bell pepper.  Guess I break out more pots!

27 Nov.  16-8-16, EC 1.8 pH 6.0:

2 Dec: Peppers doing well.  Still three plants in the ag until I decide what to do with the third..

8 Jan 2011:  Two pepper plants doing well, just starting to set peppers.  EC 1.8 pH 6.2 using 16-16-16 nutes.

21 January 2011: Love the Jalapenos!  Healthy plants and at least a half dozen peppers have set.  Hard to tell because the plants are so thick.  Using supplemental side light, changing nutes once a week, using 16-16-16 with EC 1.8 and pH around 6.3.

29 January 2011:  We have peppers!

12 March 2011:  Grow terminated.  Healthy plants but only 8 peppers.  I wasn't home when the blooms first opened so I didn't have a chance to pollinate.  Will Try again in the fall using different nutes..

Hi Gisette, Yes, two

Hi Gisette,

Yes, two Jalapenos terminated.  I still have your mini bell in a pot.  I have two regular bell peppers in an AG with two basil plants.  Again, supposed to be part of the hydro demonstration.  Peppers are doing terrific!  Short and squat and starting to form buds!  A little neglect seems to be the key .  I'll take a couple of  pix tomorrow. Headed out to Indianapolis this week after a couple of really busy work weeks.  I thought things at work would be quiet this spring.  Boy was I wrong!

Hi, Beth - so, it was the jalapeno plant that was terminated above? I'm confused.

Hi Gisette,

Yup, those are your seeds.  It has set a few fruit - I'm going to rearrange to get it some more light.

The pepper plants are beautiful. Agreed - peppers are ever so much more attactive than tomatoes!

Is your bell pepper plant from one of the mini bell seeds I sent? I think they especially appreciate light on the fruit itself, when it comes time to ripen. Fortunately, they respond well to pruning and death threats.

Two Jalops doing real well.

Two Jalops doing real well.  Did commit planticide on the third . I enjoy the pepper plants very much.  At least they look nice and heathy while growing - unlike tomatoes which are just darn ugly when they get older! I'll post pix later - puppy is sleeping on my foot - don't want to wake her.  Oh and the bell pepper in a pot has set peppers!  It isn't thrilled with the small pot and low light - tall spindly plant - but setting fruit!

Hi Beth, I'm afraid I'm fully booked up for any future trips across the pond.  Looks like it's compost heaven for the poor jalop, and at Christmas time too...

Hi, Beth, Maybe you could

Hi, Beth,

Maybe you could turn the excess jalapenos into chipotles, dry 'em out and store them.

Figured if I lay the senseless guilt on with a trowel it would be easier for you to shrug off, y'know.

Good Santa! Drops are a nuisance, so I don't check pH nearly as often as I should.

Hi Peat,

Well, now you've made me feel bad about snipping the third plant.  But I really don't need three Jalops.  Wanna come here and rescue it?

I'm going to start a new thread - Santa is going to bring me a pH meter. I know they need to be calibrated.  Any suggestions for a reasonable model?

Thanks,

Beth

Good plants, are you going to pot up the third jalop in dirt or get rid of it completely?

Hi Gisette,   Seven peppers

Hi Gisette,

Seven peppers is insane!  I did two Jalops and an ornamental last year and that was too much.  Gonna axe the third jalop.  Plants doing very well, starting to set buds.  Refilled 27 Nov.  16-8-16.  EC 1.8 pH6.0.
