Lettuce Simpson Elite in Recycled AG pod & Vase of Water

Following Peat's success with

Bottle of Water & AG6 Pod Grow I decided to grow some Lettuce Simpson Elite in a Vase.

This variety of lettuce is heat tolerant and can be harvested in 45 day (or possibly faster in the aqua)

Yay! More seeds being planted.

The pod grow has really slowed down now, it's missing the nutes. There are some decent roots coming out though, hopefully it will pick up - otherwise, it's blackened bottles and GH nutes for it.

Cool! Once I see a sprout or two I will mix up some AG salad mix nutes for them.

Yes, I put in a bout a quarter of a crushed lettuce AG nute earlier in the week.

Really? At 4 weeks? Its burpee simspon elite 45 day lettuce. I figure I got 2 more weeks to go. I decided! Its official! No more lettuce in dirt! Its way easier to grow in water! And the plant drinks water so fast that I have to refill the vase every other day which is cool cuz it won't be stamnant.

Looks big enough to cut & come again to me, just like in the AG at 3 weeks.

Grown outdoors in dirt, my lettuce has a radically different texture. The stuff I have outside right now is very good, big thick crunchy leaves. But it is slower, and there are limited time windows when it grows well. I have mostly cool-weather lettuces out now, and then later there'll be heat-tolerant lettuces. Might even manage to grow some in summer. But... maybe not. They don't like frost, either. So...

Definitely more convenient indoors in water. And they don't get so muddy.

I'm really impressed!  Guess I won't take up AG space for lettuce anymore.  I'll just grow them in vases, (or plastic bottles) spacing out the grows so I always have lettuce to cut.  Fabulous!

Enjoy!

Thanksu guys!

Sorry yours got rusty Peat.  That a bummer!

Yup Dirt is overrated. I will be planting some more lettuce in vases soon. That crazy "mystery" pepper killed all my Lettuce Vivian so I will give that a try in a vase sometimes this week.
