Growing Cucumber seeds
This is my first attempt at growing cucumbers in my Aerogrow.

Hi AJ,
Cool! Yes, please tell us what variety and what nutrients you are using!
Beth
Thank you, I will look into that. I was hoping the pictures showed, and not just be an attachment. I used National Pickling by American Seed. I just wanted to try it for the first time, to see if I could be done. If it works then I will buy some better seeds.
Beth,
I am only using the nutrients that come with the aerogrow. I tried putting some miracle grow (liquid) in it about a week ago and the leaves started to droop within 30 mins. I had to pour all of that water out and add new water, then the leaves perked back up.
Have you grown National Pickling outdoors, Appajack? Just wondering how big the plant gets.
Good thing you caught the Miracle Gro mistake quickly - the plants seem to have recovered well.
No, it was the only the store carried. I planted some seedless ones from Gardenharvest.com this year, they were wonderful. I just want to see if it is possible to grow them indoors, like the pictures in the Aerogarden book. Yes, I am glad I did not do the Miracle Gro thing and went to bed. My plants would of been died by morning. I am trying to decide how tall I am going to let them get before I pitch the tops out of them (to stop them from getting longer). I know that will limit how many fruit the plant produces, but if I don't I think I will have vines running everywhere.
The listing I found for them said "medium length vines". Medium for a cucumber is pretty long...
How much root mass do you have in the bowl for those 3 plants? Three cukes in a little Aerogarden is pretty ambitious.
At this point the root mass is not bad. The roots seem to be in tight bushy clumps, not the long running roots I am use to seeing in other plants. My thoughts was, to try and get about 3 to 4 cuc's off each plant. It is a 7 pod unit.
Welcome Appajack, good to see another cuke grow on here.
I think it's reasonable to expect 3 cukes, the plants struggle with more due to the capacity of the AG, I managed five (once) but it was hard work with many baby cukes shriveling up.
Interesting to see how the bespoke AG nutrients get on, I've never tried them myself.

Yay! Another seeker of the indoor cucumber Grail!
What variety are you trying? And is that three cucumber plants?
They look exuberantly healthy so far.
P.S. If you use Picasa or Photobucket, you might want to see here about how we do the lightbox thingies - it's easier than uploading photos to the site as attachments.
