I have been searching online off & on all day and I can not find a site that list the germination days of the seeds I planted yesterday in soil (indoors around my AG3s). Does anyone know them? I know it cant be pinned down to an exact day but a general idea would be great!

Chives

Curley Parsley

Cilantro

Sweet California Wonder Peppers

Strawberries

Tiny Tim Tomatoes

I'd guess about a week for most of them. No idea re strawberries.

Yup, except for the cilantro. AG quit putting it in their herb gardens because it was so slow and finiky. I think somebody figured out to plant it deep and have lots of patience.

As I have dabbled with strawberries in my AG, it took about 1 week to get them up. In soil, you are probably looking at 2-3 weeks.

Remember to keep the soil moist (not soaking wet).  Seeds need the moisture but also air to germinate.  Germination times also depend on soil temperature.

Take a look at this link.  The chart shows percent germination rate and days to emergence in parenthesis versus soil temp.

Thanks Beth, Peat, Bruce I was happy 5 mins ago when my AG romaine lettuce kit came in the mail & now I am sad. The soil in my pots was bone dry.

I dont know where all that water went in 1 day. I don't know if I am doing this right. I dont have additional light yet. I have no idea what the day time & night time temp is in here. Theres so much to learn still & growing in soil seems so old school!

And 2-3 weeks for strawberries! Now I wish I had an extra AG to start these things in or that Park seed had those seeding trays in stock but it is what it is right. :( If these dont work out...i can always start over right? right.

I apologize - I didn't mean to make this so complicated.  Don't despair, seeds want to grow.  If your place is between 65 and 80 degrees F, the seeds will sprout.  The chart just says cooler temps take longer.  Most veggie seeds don't require light for germination.  Sometimes potting mix is a pain to initially wet because it contains peat moss.  After adding water, before planting seeds, stick your finger in the soil and see if it is wet all the way thru.  Pick up the pot - does it feel heavier after you add water?  Once the potting mix is wet, it is just a matter of spritzing the surface to keep it damp.

Ah! Beth! No need to apologize, you were trying to help & I did ask for a germination chart. Thank you so very much!

Looks like I was doing something right (intuitively). I was doing the finger test and felt an inch of dryness in most of the pots. I poured water into those (hopefully not too much) and just sprayed the top on the 2 that felt damp within that inch. I am happy to know that I was did the right thing yay!

Its also so good to know that I have a little time (while the seeds haven't sprouted) to get the extra lamps. I looked all over the web to find the lamp at a cheaper price (its $37 on Amazon not including shipping) especially since I need 2, maybe 3. I found them on Big Lots site for $22 but I can't buy it online. How can that store not sell online? It boggles my mind!

Anyway, there is a store in Long Island. Hopefully, I can get a ride out there to get them sometime this week.

Thanks again Beth!

For planting seeds recently, I've taken to mixing the potting mix with water in a bowl, like stirring up brownie batter. It's easier that way...

Before I planted them I did make the "brownie mix" thats why I was so surprised that most of them were dry. But I have a spritzer & its all good now ( I think)

Hi All,

I use seed starting mix that has a wetting agent incorporated.  Makes getting the mix wet a snap!  I use Hoffmann seed starting mix.  I hear you can use liquid soap, but can never remember the difference between soap and detergent!
