Fall 2011 indoor Tasty Jade Cucumber in a bucket

Beth11's picture

Hi All, 9 October 2011: I've transplanted a tasty jade cucumber seedling into a pond basket inserted into a kitchen bucket filled with GH Flora Nova nutes (EC 1.1, pH 6.0). We'll see how this works! Couldn't toss the extra Giant Marconi pepper plant, so that is in potting mix in the pot next to the cuc. Really couldn't toss

the extra Ace bell peppers, they went into an AG - but that is another thread!

Cool, Beth. I've been lucky

Cool, Beth.

I've been lucky - so far no gnats this year, knock on wood.

But I finally realized the problem with my peas, is soggy soil. Apparently they too suffer root rot. Hard to strike a balance of enough water for a huge vine bearing heavy cukes, vs. keeping the soil dry enough.

Hi Gisette, They're doing
Hi Gisette, They're doing just ok. I'm going to pick two tonite, but no others growing yet. So, it is possible to grow a cuc in a bucket with nutes, but they are much happier in soil. I'll let this go a little longer then I'm going to order some knock out gnats and plant seeds in soil (and start the swiss chard like I always do - just late this year!). Beth

Hi Gisette, I have no clue
Hi Gisette, I have no clue - when I try to edit the main entry, it shows code and not regular view and the IE explorer says "done with errors". When I do reply, the sidebar photobucket won't let me drag and drop the photo and I can't copy and paste either. I've tried little netbook computer and house computer..... Beth

P.S. Is it PhotoBucket, or

P.S. Is it PhotoBucket, or agmastery, that's balking? Or can you tell.

Nice, Beth! Definitely

Nice, Beth! Definitely not-so-yellow-puckered edges. Even my cukes in pots get those...

Cucmber doing really well,
Cucmber doing really well, can't seem to post a pix from Photobucket tonight again.... Switched to Foramato for this and all peppers. Didn't like how the peppers were growing with the Floranova. Cuc has less yellow edges tonight! EC 1.4 and pH 6.1. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq355/beth11_album/101_0201_1.jpg Beth

Hi Gisette,   No aeration,

Hi Gisette,

No aeration, just lift up twice a day. I had good luck with a leftover cuc just sitting in nutes last spring.  Don't know what's up with photobucket - tried a different computer but it won't let me add a pix...

Fingers crossed for you,

Fingers crossed for you, Beth! Sure would be nice if it were that easy...

No aeration? Or just not yet?
