Custom Herb Garden 3 [Planted 6/17/2015]

Tags:

I planted these Burpee herb seeds on 6/17/2015. As you can see, the left Oregano and Thyme plants are coming through nicely. The Chives are doing OK, and the Sage is doing well.

I've let this garden get out

I've let this garden get out of hand. But the sage, oregano and thyme are outstanding! Last weekend, I finely minced some of the sage, thyme and oregano. I put that in a loaf of cornbread with some mozzarella cheese and was surprised how well it turned out. It was moist with a ton of flavor. I'm making two more loaves this weekend to take to a potluck at work next week.  laugh

The chives were a wah on this

The chives were a wash on this garden. So I just planted some in a pot this week. However, The Oregano, Thyme and Sage are great. They have really enhanced many meals in the past few weeks.

Chives really do better

Chives really do better outside, as a perennial installation.

Glad you're enjoying your herbs!

The chives are pretty much a

The chives are pretty much a wash, here. But the sage, oregano and thyme are wonderful. I've never had so many fresh herbs on hand for meals, before.

I made cornbread that was out of this world with fresh sage, basil, and thyme. I deliberately used what I considered to be too many fresh herbs from all three gardens with some additional mozzarella cheese on a cheap frozen pizza and had one of the best pizzas I've had in years. I threw an assortment of these herbs in with Mac-n-Cheese and it was outstanding. Last night, I made my Apple-Jack Chicken Breast. That is two large chicken breasts, stuffed with granny smith apple chunks, brown sugar, basil, dill and thyme. Each breast I apply cumin, garlic powder, sea salt and ground black peppercorns as an exterior rub. Then I ladled applesauce, sprinkled liberally with brown sugar, and laid fresh basil leaves over the top. It was sweet, and tart. But the herbs really made the meals.

I will never have less than two herb gardens going, again.

I'm surprised, too. I've done

I'm surprised, too. I've done AG Sage on Classics, before. But they got leggy, and kept searching for light. The harvest I did get was tasty, though. It must be the LED lights.

Ooh, that cornbread sounds

Ooh, that cornbread sounds good. yes

I'm surprised how well the sage is doing. I grew lemon sage one year outdoors. It seemed much more lemony for tea than the lemon basil or lemon balm. Bought it as a young plant, though, and just took cuttings to spread it around a bit. I have such nice herbs outside. I ought to use them more.

These aren't doing too bad. I

These aren't doing too bad. I have designs on that Sage. My first harvest will go into a batch of my cornbread muffins with sage and mozzerela cheese. I can almost taste it now, mmmmm...

You know, I really can't

You know, I really can't complain about these. These are all custom Burpee herbs. The right Oregano and right Thyme pods are coming in under the label. I just replaced those within the last week. The additional Chives pod, too. The left Oregano and Thyme pods and the Sage are doing well, too. I'm not sure about the center Chives, as yet. Not bad for 14 days.

Because I pulled the chives

Because I pulled the chives pods from the first herb garden, I added an additional Burpee chives pod to this garden, replacing the cilantro pod. The cilantro pod wasn't showing anything. Both cilantro pods on the first herb garden are coming in nicely.

I also changed the oregano and thyme  pods that weren't showing life. The other oregano and thyme pods are doing great.
