Cucumber : Spacemaster
Smooth, cylindrical, crisp, dark green fruits 18-20cm (7 to 8 inches) long. Extremely productive on a short vined compact plant. Pick regularly throughout the season. Ideally suited to container growing or if space is restricted in the garden. Resistant to Cucumber Mosaic Virus (CMV) and scab.
Not yet Beth. I only planted them a day or so ago. I do plan to grow them indoors. I bought seeds that grow a bush not vines especially for container growing. I cant wait till there are flowers to pollinate. That will be fun!
Day 16
I noticed some white fuzzy "lines" without the top pf the soil. Are these root hairs on roots or something else that I shold be worried about?

They look nice and healthy. You do such good work.
Enjoy!
Ooh, how did I miss this picture... Gorgeous cucumber plant, Jessi, really happy!
Yay! I assume they're boy flowers? See any girl buds developing yet?
How'd your mom's surgery go?
Well I am looking but I dont really think so!
I see 3 of these

and none of these

So we wait and pray for the glorious females to arrive! I have to say of all my plants the cucumbers are the prettiest!
Agreed! Cucumbers are gorgeous plants! Peppers are pretty, too. Tomatoes... not so much.
And my eggplant, oy. The flowers and fruit are pretty. The plants... oy. Is your spaghetti squash still around? The leaves aren't as quite as pretty on squash, but the flowers are bigger than your fist.
Yep! Its still around but I pretty much ignore it. Its nothing personal. I give it water but the darn things won't stand up and I got tired of picking it up every day. No flowers yet. I also didn't replant that "pepper" plant that appeared in my lettuce pot & its a monster! Its so big!
I don't think squash are supposed to stand up, are they? Their fruit are heavy, so they crawl around on the ground. Most cukes, too, if you let 'em, though they have tendrils to climb things.
I hope it's a good mystery pepper.
LOL, Jessi!
FWIW, the Burpee site describes Spacemaster as a "short hardy vine". And it is kinda compact - for a cucumber plant. It's growing great!
Can't wait to see how many cukes you get from this plant. It looks great. Have you fed it anything? What did you plant it in?
Enjoy!
Its in Miracle Grow or Scotts ( I forget which but they feed 3 to 4 months) & I havent given it anything yet. All the flowers are male & they dont stay around long at all. They form, bloom & die within a day or so. Theres not a single female in site
I wouldn't worry about no female flowers yet, Jessi. They do go through a period of all-male flowers for a while before female flowers show up, and the plant's only, what, 6 weeks old yet? Though if it goes on like that too long, it might need fewer hours of light, at least to kick it over.
yep just about 6 weeks. good to know that no female flowers isnt anything to fret over yet

Hi Jessi,
Have your cucs sprouted? Do you plan to grow them indoors? If so, just a reminder that you'll need to hand pollinate by moving pollen from male flowers to female flowers. Happy Cucing!
