Cucino Cucumbers

Here's a picture of the Cucino cucumbers in a deluxe.  Growing slowly but looking OK.  I'm not happy with the crispy lower leaves.  Flora nutes, currently using Peats recipe for bloom, EC at 1.9, pH 6.0.  Started Jan 29, 2009, so they are 45 days old.  Can't seem to get my camera to take a clear picture of the baby cuc!

Beth - you're also growing cucino cuke on a light shelf with your swiss chard, right? Are they the same age? Seems to me the light shelf cuke was a bit ahead.

Nice to see your cukes Beth, if it makes you happier, some of my lower leaves turn crispy also - it's generally the older ones though.

I do think this plant is tricky to grow, it's not very tolerant of EC & pH fluctuations, you've seen all the problems I've had working out how to grow it.

It does not look bad, the new growth looks green and healthy, it's the new growth that shows you how well the plant is doing. If you EC/pH was wrong, then you would notice it here first. I have 'pepped' up mine with a little H2O2 on occasion, just to make sure things keep ticking over.

Hi All,

The cucino in with the swiss chard is older.  I started it on 12/15, I think and it went into the box around 12/25.  It's in the back of the box - I need to drag it out and check on the progress.  It has lots of cucs, but they aren't getting bigger.  I snipped out the growing point to see if that would help.

Beth

Any chance it's root-bound?

Hi Gisette,

Look what I found!  It's getting eaten tomorrow, don't care if it should be bigger (they only get 4-5" long).  Maybe that will cause the other 15 or so cucs to fatten up!

Beth - aha! That would do it! They do love to hide, don't they?

Looks delicious! Yes, definitely, picking that should fatten up the next up-vine!

Looking forward to hearing how it tastes.

AG cucs continue to grow.  They do lose their lower leaves but grow new ones back!  Vines are at 22 inches with 15 baby cucs.  Hope they mature!  I really like this variety.  It will make it into a pot on my patio this year.

I'm soooo happy to hear how well these are doing.  I'm hoping mine do as well.

Enjoy!
